NHL’s highest-drafted China-born player wants more Asians in hockey
The 19-year-old Beijing native hopes his rise through hockey can help bring more Asian players into a league that has yet to see a China-born player make his debut.
Haoxi “Simon” Wang, the highest-drafted China-born player in NHL history, wants to see more Asian players reach the league. The San Jose Sharks selected the Beijing-born defenseman 33rd overall in 2025, making him only the third China-born player drafted by an NHL team.
