Toronto’s first Chinese Canadian mayor makes history again with record-breaking win

Chow’s victory follows a closely watched race over property taxes, housing affordability and public transit.

Olivia Chow is staying on as Toronto mayor after pulling in more votes than anyone who has ever run for the job. The 69-year-old Hong Kong immigrant, who became the city’s first Chinese Canadian mayor in 2023, is also its first woman mayor to win re-election.
